OptiTrack 3D Motion Capture System

A system that allows for accurate three-dimensional motion measurement with easy operation.

The OptiTrack system allows anyone to easily measure three-dimensional motion with an accuracy of less than 1mm. It is used in a wide range of fields, including human measurement, measurement and real-time control of drones and robotic arms, and the VR sector. The OptiTrack three-dimensional motion measurement system uses infrared cameras to attach reflective markers to the objects to be measured, measuring the reflections to determine the three-dimensional positions of the markers. It is also possible to stream measurement data to other applications in real time. Additionally, after data collection, you can perform cleanup editing of the data and export it in formats such as CSV. Calibration is also very simple, allowing both beginners and experienced users to achieve three-dimensional measurements with an accuracy of less than 1mm. Depending on the number of cameras, the typical calibration time is about 5 minutes. There is a wide range of camera options available, from affordable compact entry models to large-scale, high-resolution, high-speed capture models, allowing you to choose according to your needs. The interfaces available are USB and Ethernet. ● For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

Case Studies of Markerless 3D Motion Measurement System Usage

We will introduce how to utilize easily collected markerless data, leveraging ergonomics, for evaluating and designing various products.

**Why Measure Human Posture and Movement?** The ease or difficulty with which a person handles objects is unconsciously reflected in their posture and movements. Furthermore, the condition of a person's body is also manifested in their posture and movements. Therefore, measuring a person's posture and movements is crucial for understanding the quality of objects and the state of the body. **What is Measured Without Markers?** **Walking Posture** - **Measurement Items** Walking speed, stride length, body tilt (forward/backward, side to side), head height, arm swing angle, shoulder and hip rotation, hip joint tilt (forward/backward, side to side), knee angle, foot extension/flexion, etc. - **Utilization of Data** By collecting data on the above measurement items, one can evaluate the quality of the targeted products and the effectiveness of services (such as rehabilitation or fitness instruction). **Usage Movements (How to Use)** - **Measurement Items** Body tilt (forward/backward, side to side), movements of the arms and legs, shoulder and hip rotation, etc. - **Utilization of Data** By collecting data on the above measurement items, one can evaluate the quality of the targeted products and the effectiveness of services (such as sports instruction). *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.*

[Example] Measuring the "ease of carrying" of a school backpack.

A method to measure the "ease of carrying" of a school backpack using a markerless 3D motion measurement system is proposed!

To create a school backpack that children will love and use for a long time, it is important to consider "ease of carrying." When children try on various backpacks, there are certainly some that are easier to carry than others. However, understanding specifically what makes them different and how is challenging, making it difficult to improve the products. HAL Design Institute has proposed a method to measure the "ease of carrying" of backpacks using our developed 'Markerless 3D Motion Measurement System.' As a result, we received feedback from clients stating that they understood the differences between "easy to carry" backpacks and those that are not, which helped them figure out how to design the main body and shoulder straps of an easy-to-carry backpack. Would you like to measure the movements of your products as well? Please feel free to contact us when needed. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to reach out to us.*

[Anakin System Use Case] Evaluation of Hand and Foot Coordination Tasks (Jump Rope)

We will introduce the differences in the way advanced and beginner jumpers use their hands and feet in "ayatori" (string figures).

We will introduce examples of the use of the "Markerless 3D Motion Measurement System" for advanced and beginner jump rope practitioners. We focused on measuring the Y-coordinate of the LeftFoot to observe the jumping technique and the X-coordinate of the LeftForceArm to analyze hand movements. As a result, it was found that beginners have unstable jumping power, resulting in a pointed shape, while advanced practitioners have stable jumping power, resulting in a rounded shape. 【Case Study】 ■ Movements of LeftFoot and LeftForceArm - Beginners: Jumping power is unstable, resulting in a pointed shape. - Advanced practitioners: Jumping power is stable, resulting in a rounded shape. ■ Timing of arm opening and jumping - Beginners: The timing of arm opening and the interval between jumps are shorter. - Advanced practitioners: The timing of arm opening and the interval between jumps are consistent. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
